Friendly Beasts, Day 5: Dedication and Everlasting Love to Animals (D.E.L.T.A. Rescue)

Established in 1979, D.E.L.T.A. Rescue is the largest no-kill animal sanctuary of its kind, offering safety and respite for over a thousand animals...pets...that were abandoned in the wild and left to fend for themselves.  Dogs and cats who once knew the warmth of an indoor bed and the comfort of regular meals and were dumped when no longer wanted have been brought to this facility by its founder and staff members.  There, they receive medical care, regular meals, playtime, companionship, and all the attention they deserve after such hard luck.

Believing that no pet deserves such treatment any more than a human child deserves such treatment, the Rescue does not take in animals that people want to surrender to them, nor do they adopt out...the residents are rescued from desolate circumstances, and once he or she arrives, they are a permanent resident until death takes them to a new meadow to roam.  The facility is not a tour stop, nor does it serve as petting zoo for visitors.  Visitations are offered only to those who have provided sponsorship, and the exact location of the 94-acre ranch (pictured above, from their photo gallery) is kept for members only so that people don't abandon animals right on their doorstep.

D.E.L.T.A. Rescue receives no help from the government and relies solely on donor contributions.  Visit their Web site, linked above, to find out how you can contribute to the care of the animals someone else has left behind.
